The Full Beginners Course - £50

Suitable for 10 years and over

Whether you have shot before or are completely new to the sport, one of the best ways to get yourself started in Archery is to go on one of our beginners courses.

These courses are run over six two-hour sessions by the club coaches and will result in the candidate being offered membership to the club. If they wish to join another club the course and certificate issued will show the club that they have completed a recognised Archery GB Course that has been run by a qualified Archery GB Coach.

Cost

The cost of the course includes all tuition, insurance and equipment hire for the duration of the course must be paid in advance and is non-refundable.

Junior Beginners Course - £25

Suitable for 10 years and younger

A reduced course of five one-hour courses for under 10s.  This course covers barebow shooting, with the opportunity to try sights at the end if time allows.  The course often runs along side the Adult course so Guardians and Children can attend together.

Number of places

We hold several beginners courses per year, depending on demand.  On each course we can accommodate up to ten to twelve people.  Due to the limited number of places and equipment available, places are allocated on a first come, first serve basis.  See below for Place Availability and contact the Coaching Coordinator for confirmation of places

Equipment

All equipment is supplied by the club so please do not buy anything for yourself until you have completed the course.

Training

Your training will cover aspects of both barebow and recurve, arrows and accessories, shooting technique, scoring, safety and the rules of shooting.  All training is provided by accredited coaches and experienced club members.

Insurance

Archery GB's insurance covers you for the first six lessons that you receive at the club but if you wish to continue shooting after that, you must become a member of Archery GB and/or a club.

Juniors

We welcome all ages from 10 years up. Children under the age of 18 must have a 'Designated Responsible Adult' (DRA) present for the whole of the session. A Designated Responsible Adult (DRA) is a parent, legal guardian or other adult approved (in writing) by a parent or legal guardian to look after the interests of a minor or vulnerable adult in accordance with the Child Protection Act.

Clothing

Wear close fitting clothing during the lessons. This helps to prevent your clothing being caught by the bowstring when shooting the bow.  Footwear should be fully enclosing (not open-toed).  No long earrings or upper body piercings please.

Course Availablity

Courses are held on a particular day of the week in consecutive weeks.

If you cannot make a particular session on the course then we can generally accommodate that by inserting a session on another club night.  You need to attend 5 of the 6 sessions to be assessed.

We are adding courses when there is demand, so if there are no suitable slots then please enquire with the Training Co-ordinator
